Wishing a good harvest and well-being of the county and preventing disasters, the Ogeory Dangsanje Festival and Daeboreum Folk Games are grandly held every first day of February on the lunar calendar at Gochang Dongri Gugakdang Square and Junggeory Dangsan. As the only festival of its kind in Korea, it is hosted by the Gochang Cultural Center and organized by the Ogeory Dangsan Preservation Commission and the town association. With the participation of citizens, Dangsangut signals the beginning of the festival at Junggeory Dangsan of Gochang-eup, which is followed by many different events including lantern games, Juryemaji, tug-of-war, dressing Dangsan, and traditional outdoor performances.
In the afternoon, the town association organizes Daeboreum folk games in the Dongri Gugakdang Square. Each village participates in various folk games as a team, such as a game of yut, tuho, Korean shuttlecock, and Korean seesaw, providing visitors to the county things to see and enjoy. Ogeory Dangsanje is Korea’s folklore event, praying for health and peace of the county to the ancestors or the guardian of the county. Gochang Dangsanje has been preserved in its original form, differing from other towns. Ogeory Dangsan stands at Obang, the center of the downtown Gochang and was designated as the folklore material no.14 on December 6th, 1969.
