Gochang-eup Fortress (also known as Moyang Fortress) was built by making the most of the defensive geography of Jangdaebong Peak (108m) the guardian peak in the south of Gochang-gun. The fortress was built with a technique that joined the corners. Therefore, its external façade is built with stones, while the interior façade was made with soil and rubble stones. The fortress is comprised of three gates in east, west, south, and north, 6 chis, 2 floodgates, and a castle. Unlike fortresses built in the Joseon Dynasty Style, it remains useful fortress research. The northern gate looks like a two-story house with a hall downstairs which has a hole for the door lock.

Dongheon (Government Office) and Naeah (Living Quarters)

During the Joseon Dynasty, a building built for the officials dispatched from the central government to take care of government affairs was called a Dongheon. Naedongheon or Dongheon was built next to Dongheon as a residence. The board showing the building name, Pyeonggeundang is written by Seokjeon Hwangwook and hung on the Dongheon.

Guesthouse (Moyangjigwan)

When government officials were sent to a town, they stayed in a guesthouse (Gaeksa) during the Joseon Dynasty, and at the center of the guesthouse was marked with a wooden tablet symbolizing the King and a ceremony was held toward the direction of the palace on the first day and the day of the full moon each month and on celebratory occasions.

Dapseong Play

Join Dapseong Play and live a long healthy life. The oral tradition states that if you walk around the fortress with a stone on your head once, all diseases will be cured; if you walk around two times you will live a long healthy life, and for three times, you will go to paradise, which attracts many women participants. The best days for fortress treading are in March of the lunar calendar, particularly the 6th, 16th and 26th when the gate to the other world opens. When you do fortress treading, you need to put a palm-sized stone on a pile at the entrance, spread different kinds of crops on white paper and bow three times to make a wish and pray for a long healthy life.
