Haepung red pepper is produced in the clean west coast area. It is resistant to blights and insects as it is grown in the ecological environment with a long duration of sunshine, with soil and humidity suitable for growth and with sea breeze from the West Sea. It is cultivated in the red clay, which is rich in quality minerals and germanium, and then is dried in the sea breeze and sun to have a clear color, thick peel, and a unique sweet but spicy flavor. The festival is held in late August every year in Haeri-myeon along with many different experience events, such as pepper burning, making a straw rope, making kimchi with Haepung red pepper, making red pepper pancakes, and various programs, such as sharing bibimbap with tourists and a singing contest.
